Resolved Question: Good sci-fi novel
I just finished playing the Mass Effect trilogy (including the four novels) and I need more sci-fi!
I've read some of the older classics like Dune but what I really need is something more recent with heavy science in it, no matter how fictional or even absurd. Mass Effect for example had alien communities, galactic teleportation and even biotic superpowers but everything had science behind it!
PS: I prefer something about space but not necessesarily, as long as it's sci-fi and totally geeky :D
Thanks in advance to everyone that answers!

Resolved Question: Trying to remember the
There are two short fiction horror stories I cannot recall the name or what collection they were apart of. I thought they were apart of a Stephen King novel, but I can't find them in any of his collections. The first story is about a man obsessed with some form of exercise (weight lifting or chin ups.) The man starts to amputate his limbs for the benefit of weighing less. He visits a surgeon frequently, in the end he amputates all fingers or his arm where he cannot do the exercise anymore. The second story is about a man who owes a large amount of money to some mob. He is given the option of placing his hand on a red hot stove burner for 10 seconds to pay his debt. Turns out he can't do it, very gross and detailed that's why I believe it is Stephen King. I do believe they are from the same book. Please help thank you.
