Open Question: Isn't it abuse of format when
claim to have used john carmack's id tech engine in their game , while they only used a heavily modified version of it which essentially means they are abusing the trademarks of id and doom to promote their game?

Resolved Question: How to get started in
Im 15, in High School and my love for video games goes un-matched compared with everyone i know at my school and my local community. I love them to pieces and for a long time i've wanted to be a video game creator of some sort. I've not exactly pinned down what i want to be EXACTLY (animator, engine programmer, coder etc.). However, i don't understand how all the game devs i see today like Todd Howard and John Carmack got to be where they are.
How did the learn to code?
Did they take College courses or did they learn on their own?
How many years does it take on an average?
I desperately want to be a game designer of some sort, and hopefully become a Creative Director on my own project. The only experience i've had making a game is with Scratch and if i may say, it was a very poor game.
What im basically asking is, am i able to take College or Sixth Form courses to learn all this or do i have to learn it myself and take it from there? An answer from a professional or someone with a fair understanding would be very great thank you :)
