Resolved Question: To a native South Korean
I have heard that when President Roh Moo-hyun (RIP...God bless him) did eye surgery, South Koreans were not appalled that their president had surgery but actually they felt closer to him when he did it because they felt like he understands his people, because for South Koreans plastic surgery is very common? I do not mean to offend any South Koreans. I'm sorry if this is just a false stereotype. I'm just curious. Thank you!

Resolved Question: Why do foreigners all
I'm actually asking this as a real question, this is not a rant. I don't understand why foreigners hate Lee Myung-bak so much. I'm 100% foreign and believe me, I'm not a huge fan of South Korean politics, but he doesn't seem that bad to me. Under his presidency, the S-3 work permit has been extended to D-4 students, more people are eligible to teach English in Korea than under Roh Moo-hyun, and he has even *TALKED* about a five-year period of residency leading to permanent residency for foreigners. He's trying to make some ammends with Japan and the US, something Roh Moo-hyun made little effort to do. Yet every time I log into Yahoo! Answers or Dave's ESL Cafe, somebody's criticizing him. I understand why Koreans hate him, but I don't understand why foreigners dislike him so much, too. Can someone please explain to me why foreigners would hate this guy who appears to be trying to HELP foreigners, open the system to skilled foreigners, and mend fences? Is the only reason foreigners hate him is because Koreans tell them to do so, and since the foreigners don't speak Korean, they have no other way to form an opinion? Can someone please enlighten me on this? I have a positive bias towards him because during his presidency, the laws on English teachers changed to allow me to teach there, theoretically. However, if someone can give me a really good reason I shouldn't like him and provide evidence, go ahead, maybe you'll change my mind... Umm...folks, everyone in the Korea forum should know who he is. He's the PRESIDENT OF SOUTH KOREA, at least last time I checked! I guess certain people are so busy listening to DBSK and Wondergirls, they don't pay attention to who's in power...
