Resolved Question: Would you go with the
Well, it's a morality question.
Those in the States with Flemish or Dutch ancestry might know "Sint Niklaas" (Saint Nicolas) which is celebrated on December 5th in Holland and December 6th. It's an old tradition, which goes back to the Old Ways, when Odin still roamed the skies and was widely believed in.
Over here, in Belgium, he is celebrated on the 6th of december. He brings candy and toys to the children. He flies on his horse on the rooftops of the houses and goes down the chimneys, and drops presents through it.
Of course, we all know it is our parents that do the whole thing, but it is only told to the children when they come of age (something like eight, ten years old). Most children are devastated when they hear about this.
I normally will not have any children, but if ever I have them, I will not tell them of Saint Nicolas, instead I will tell them that it is me and their mothers spending our hard-earned euros for presents for them, thus making sure they're grateful for it.
What would you do? Go with the scam that is Saint Nicolas, or tell your children directly that it is a lie ? Just a thing: it is not Santa Claus, it's Saint Nicholas. These may sound the same, but the latter is celebrated on 6th of dec, as the first is on 25th of dec.
I just don't like Christian bastardizations of our Old Ways, so I would tell my kid that Christianity is a lie as well.
