Resolved Question: Floripa, Recife, or Porto
I will be studying abroad in Brazil in a few months. I am debating on which program to go on. One of them is very independent, own housing, and strictly Portuguese (Porto Alegre or Recife), while the other is more of a group setting with classes in both English and Portuguese as well as living with a host family (Florianopolis). Can anyone with any experience in these cities give any input, pros & cons (on the cities not the type of program)?
Thanks in advance!

Resolved Question: Is R$ 80 per day enough
I am going to travel to Brazil (POA) for around 2 months some time in June. Since I am travelling as part of my Job, I will get accomodation from the company but I would need to manage everything else (including travel to work, meals, telephone, beer etc..) on my own for which I would get R$ 80 per day.
Also I would like to know, how much would a budget trip over a weekend to Rio cost.. would I be able to manage it using my per diem allowance?
Thanks!

Resolved Question: Going to Porto Alegre for
Going to Porto Alegre for 2 weeks in June.
Looking for some tips as to what to see and do while there. I have plenty of guide books - just looking to see if any locals can give me some hints - maybe there are some things there that tourists never see and people think I should take a look at or activities I can do.
Also. Any suggestions about the amount of money I should take?
I was thinking along the lines of about 1900 REALS for 2 weeks - I know when I was in Rio it was extremely expensive - anyone have any ideas?
Looking forward to seeing the land of the gauchos and I am travelling with some friends - we have accommodation already sorted out, so the money is for spending.
As a guide, want to go a little clubbing and experience the night life - maybe try clubs like W Hall or Thomas Pub - and also experience good real barbecue....
look forward to some suggestions....
Jim

Is it a safe city? Are the people friendly? Hows the weather? The cooler the better...
