Resolved Question: Flying into Lhasa with
I'm flying into Lhasa airport in September and want to bring, among other lenses, my 500mm f/4.5, which is fairly large. My Tibetan agent warned against bringing "too big camera," as my bags will likely be searched upon arrival, and a professional journalist permit is nearly impossible to obtain.
I've read on this forum about people having no problems with pro-looking gear in other parts of Tibet, but what about flying into Lhasa? Does anyone have any experience in this regard? Do they give all the bags a thorough once-over, or is it a cursory pat-down?
I've been told not to take pictures of military, and any uprisings, but I'd like to bring the big lens for wildlife. Will that freak the Chinese out?

Resolved Question: Do you oppose Red China's
Information is filtering out with photos that Red China (not Taiwan, China) is destroying much of the old city of Lhasa and putting up block house style "modern" buildings. Shortly, Lhasa will look like the rest of gutted and re-done Chinese cities with no local character and people displaced. Seems evil Chinese govt wants to make Lhasa a tourist attraction, but who would go there to see more Red Chinese destruction. Nothing of interest in Lhasa remains so why go there?
Buddhist sacred places are being desecrated and its culture ripped out. A huge and ongoing crime against humanity that no one seems to care about but wants to kiss Red China's butt.
HH Dalai Lama's home, the Potala monastery, is now a Disney Land, and the Johkang Temple area has seen flattened the square and desecrated the location.
Is anyone really angry and upset about this situation?????
