Resolved Question: What are some
My boyfriend and I are planning a 7-10 day trip next year. (We're from the US.) We know we want to fly into Edinburgh and see the Isle of Skye, and most likely Glasgow and Inverness, but we don't only want to hit up the super touristy spots. However, it's not easy to find places that aren't popular over the internet from 6 gazillion miles away, so I was hoping someone who lives there or has been there could let us in on some interesting/beautiful places sans hoards of tourists.
Thanks!

Resolved Question: Driving from Inverness to
Hi everyone,
Next May (2013) I am going to the Uk with my mum and I am just starting to work out where we want to go. All up we will be travelling for around 12 days including about 3 in London and about 2 days at the Royal Windsor Horse show. So all up we have about 7 days specifically for a driving holiday - we are Australian so left hand driving is fine.)
My mum is in her 50's, i am in my 20's. We both love beautiful scenery, eating! Like stopping somewhere nice for lunch or going to a famous bakery etc, I like walking in the countryside which my mum is not so keen on but will come along as long as its not a day long walk, we also want to stop at villages along the way that are really pretty and my mum is quite interested in things to do with the royal family.
However we are not interested in big tourist attractions (like Stonehenge) preferring to find little villages to stop for lunch and we really are not keen on staying in old haunted manor houses etc. We once stayed in an old historic building that we found creepy so left after one night forfeiting a few hundred dollars in non refundable fees lol. We are wusses.
What we were thinking of was starting in Inverness - Edinburgh - Ayrshire (just sort of a drive through) - lakes district - Yorkshire dales and York - Oxfordshire + the Cotswolds - Windsor - London. Although we are not sure if doing this path will take us off the path to the most beautiful towns and scenery which is paramount.
Any suggestions.

Resolved Question: What is the best way to
Next July, my family and I are going to the UK for a vacation. We're from New York. We are very interested in Scotland's natural beauty, so after taking a train from London to Edinburgh and seeing it and Glasgow, we'd like to go into the highlands.
We'd like to visit Cairngorms National Park and Loch Ness. How should we do this? Should we rent a car and drive the 'scenic route' or do something else? What are the lodging options? Any help is appreciated. Thank you! :)
